Enhancing the cultural depth of our home are two captivating pieces of artwork, each telling its own unique story. The first painting, mounted on stretched canvas, vividly portrays the essence of African village life, focusing on “the women”, who are at the heart of the community. As pillars of a matriarchal society, women hold an essential role within the home and beyond. The artwork beautifully illustrates two women carrying items on their heads, while cradling a baby in a sling their her backs, symbolising strength, resilience, and nurturing care.
The second painting symbolizes a pivotal moment in Ghana’s history—the return of power to the people and the end of British rule in 1957. It captures the spirit of liberation and the newfound sense of freedom that came with independence. This era marked a time when Ghanaians embraced the ability to travel, explore the world, and shape their own future, reflecting a powerful narrative of empowerment and self-determination.
These remarkable pieces, crafted by skilled local artists, were sourced from the Accra Arts Centre, a hub of authentic Ghanaian artistry and culture.
